Simple finite field method for calculation of static and dynamic vibrational hyperpolarizabilities: Curvature contributions
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the static field limit, the vibrational hyperpolarizability consists of two contributions due to: ~1! the shift in the equilibrium geometry ~known as nuclear relaxation!, and ~2! the change in the shape of the potential energy surface ~known as curvature!. Simple finite field methods have previously been developed for evaluating these static field contributions and also for determining the effect of nuclear relaxation on dynamic vibrational hyperpolarizabilities in the infinite frequency approximation. In this paper the finite field approach is extended to include, within the infinite frequency approximation, the effect of curvature on the major dynamic nonlinear optical processes. © 1998 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-9606~98!02224-7#

Ab initio investigation of electronic and vibrational contributions to linear and nonlinear dielectric properties of ice.
Electronic and vibrational contributions to the static and dynamic (hyper)polarizability tensors of ice XI and model structures of ordinary hexagonal ice have been theoretically investigated. Calculations were carried out by the finite field nuclear relaxation method for periodic systems (FF-NR) recently implemented in the CRYSTAL code, using the coupled-perturbed Kohn-Sham approach (CPKS) for ...

We present a general approach for the analytic calculation of pure vibrational contributions to the molecular (hyper)polarizabilities at the density functional level of theory. The analytic approach allows us to study large molecules, and we apply the new code to the study of the first dipole hyperpolarizabilities of retinal and related molecules. We investigate the importance of electron corre...

Electronic (β(e)) and vibrational (β(v)) first-order hyperpolarizabilities of uracil were determined in gas and water solution using the Coulomb-attenuating Density Functional Theory level with the Dunning's correlation-consistent aug-cc-pVDZ basis set. Frequency-dependent β(e) values were computed for the Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) and Electric Optical Pockels Effect (EOPE) nonlinear opt...
متن کاملDetermination of vibrational polarizabilities and hyperpolarizabilities using field-induced coordinates
An analytical set of field-induced coordinates ~FICs! is defined. It is shown that, instead of 3N 26 normal coordinates, a relatively small number of FICs is sufficient to describe the vibrational polarizability and hyperpolarizabilities due to nuclear relaxation. The fact that the number of FICs does not depend upon the size of the molecule leads to computational advantages. A method is provid...

A simple extended finite field nuclear relaxation procedure for calculating vibrational contributions to degenerate four-wave mixing (also known as the intensity-dependent refractive index) is presented. As a by-product one also obtains the static vibrationally averaged linear polarizability, as well as the first and second hyperpolarizability. The methodology is validated by illustrative calcu...
